What to Do with Old Furniture

May 3, 2020With the current Corona Virus restrictions, we are all at home, with time on our hands. Kids are bored and everyone is getting cabin fever. So, what can you do? Why not have a good sort out and get all those jobs done that you have been thinking about but have never had the time such as yard waste removal.
Clear the Garage
Is You Garage A Bombsite? If your garage is anything like mine, it could do with some TLC. Often the garage is the dumping ground for the home. Why not get in there and start to go through the boxes and bags of stuff that have probably been sitting in there for years. Much of it is obsolete and can go to the tip. Other items can be recycled, or even start to prepare for a yard sale when things get back to normal.
Although you won’t be able to get to the tip, you can certainly create tip piles of everything that needs to go. You can also separate out all the the items that can be either sold or recycled. Do you have some shelving? Why not get this set up and organise everything so it is easy to find and retrieve?
Clean Up the Yard
As we come out of the winter period and the weather starts to improve, there are plenty of jobs to do in the yard such as yard waste removal. Again, this is a great opportunity to get to work and get your yard in great shape for the summer. You are likely to be spending a lot of time at home over the next weeks and months, so why not get your open space looking as good as possible so you can enjoy it. Get any old plants or broken fences cleared. What about old garden furniture that has been left out? Why not clean it up and get this back to a reasonable condition so it can be used.
DeClutter the House
It is that time of year for a spring clean anyway. Now you have the time to do it. So why not get stuck in and go through each room. There are bound to be various items that are no longer used and are surplus to requirements. This is the time to do that decluttering you always talked about. Go through your wardrobe and get rid of all those clothes that you have not worn for years.
What about old electronics equipment and furniture? Maybe it’s time to reconfigure some of the rooms in your house. Move the furniture around. Make it more usable. This may mean minimalizing and discarding some of the furniture.
What about old computer screens and printers or any other obsolete equipment. Take advantage of the unexpected time at home and start to systematically go through the house and have a good clear out.
Disposing of these items may be difficult now, but just allocate a space in your yard are garage. When the restrictions are lifted you will be in a prime position to get all this unwanted stuff disposed of, either through recycling, a yard sale or get a junk removal company in to clear everything away.
Is it time for a more extensive project? Were you looking to remove a shed or hot tub from the back yard? This is the time to do it. If you have teenage kids, then you have helpers. Also, you can teach them some skills, for example how to take a shed down safely, or how to remove a hot tub.
This will include using tools which if not used correctly can cause injury. This will be a great life lesson for your kids.
Don’t waste this time watching TV or playing with your phone. Create a list of jobs you want to get done and put together a schedule for the day and the week. Make sure you include some fun stuff as well. Then it won’t just be a chore.
